Nagesh, Chairman, Shoppers Stop &amp; Founder, TRRAIN, the panel featured eminent voices from the retail sector:\u00a0<strong>P. Venkatesalu, CEO &amp; Executive Director, Trent Ltd; Rakesh Biyani, Mentor, Nexon Omniverse Ltd; Ram Chandra Agarwal, Chairman &amp; MD, V2 Retail Ltd; Rajesh Jain, MD &amp; CEO, Sports And Leisure Apparel Limited (Lacoste India); Vedant Modi, Chief Revenue Officer, Vedant Fashions Ltd. India already exports garments worldwide; the next step is to establish global retail footprints.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Consumer Aspirations &amp; the Power of Social Media<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Panellists noted that\u00a0<strong>aspirations, not just affordability, are driving value retail\u2019s success.<\/strong>\u00a0Social media and digital trends have blurred the traditional hierarchy of fashion trickle-down, making style accessible instantly across different demographics.<\/p>\n<p>Suman Saha,\u00a0<strong>CXO, Myntra<\/strong>, shed light on how\u00a0<strong>social media is reshaping consumer behaviour<\/strong>, stating,\u00a0<em>\u201cEarlier, fashion trends used to trickle down over time. Now, virality on social platforms is dictating demand. \u2018Farewell Sarees\u2019 became a national trend overnight. Consumers today are looking for a combination of affordability, trendiness, and relevance, and brands must be agile to cater to these evolving needs.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tier 2 &amp; 3 Cities: The Next Growth Frontier<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While metro cities continue to drive sales,\u00a0<strong>Tier 2 &amp; Tier 3 cities are witnessing an unprecedented retail boom.<\/strong>\u00a0Vedant Modi,\u00a0<strong>Chief Revenue Officer, Vedant Fashions Ltd. (Manyavar)<\/strong>, highlighted this shift with an example:\u00a0<em>\u201cOne of our largest stores is now in Gorakhpur, spanning 25,000 sq. ft. The spending power in smaller cities, especially during weddings, is astonishing. Instead of opening multiple small stores, we are now consolidating with larger, experience-driven retail formats to better serve these markets.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Online vs. Offline Debate<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite the rapid rise of e-commerce,\u00a0<strong>offline retail remains crucial<\/strong>\u00a0for categories requiring tactile experiences. However, digital platforms are increasingly being leveraged for brand discovery and convenience shopping.<\/p>\n<p>P. Venkatesalu,\u00a0<strong>CEO &amp; Executive Director, Trent Ltd.,<\/strong>\u00a0noted the importance of a strategic approach to omnichannel retail:\u00a0<em>\u201cThe modern consumer is nuanced\u2014she shops across formats. While Gen Z is hooked on digital, Zudio has consciously chosen not to go online. Success lies in making clear choices rather than blindly following trends.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rajesh Jain, MD &amp; CEO, Sports and Leisure Apparel Limited (Lacoste India)<\/strong>, elaborated on the evolving definition of value in retail, \u201c<em>Value can\u2019t be defined as just money.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0He presented a case study:\u00a0<em>\u201cThe customer buying a \u20b93,999 Lacoste polo wants to be as satisfied as the customer buying a \u20b9399 local brand\u2019s polo.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Nagesh,\u00a0<\/strong>asked,\u00a0<em>\u201cDo you think this is a value customer? Will this customer with a Lacoste polo also have something from Zudio?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jain answered in the affirmative<\/strong>,\u00a0<em>\u201cOne hundred per cent. The customer who wears a Lacoste polo when going out with friends will feel more comfortable wearing a cheaper polo at home.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Retail\u2019s Role in Job Creation &amp; Economic Growth<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The panel also shed light on\u00a0<strong>value retail\u2019s massive potential for employment generation.<\/strong>\u00a0With modern retail expanding to 1000+ cities, the sector is poised to create over\u00a0<strong>30 million jobs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rakesh Biyani,\u00a0<strong>Mentor, Nexon Omniverse Ltd.,<\/strong>\u00a0stressed the role of manufacturing in fuelling this growth:\u00a0<em>\u201cIndia is uniquely positioned as both a production and consumption hub.
